Community Come Together To Share Faith
07/23/07 WGC

The community came together Sunday afternoon for a time of fellowship and worship during the annual events of the Community Gospel Sing and Community Worship Service at the Meade County Fair.

Several local church members provided their talent during the gospel sing which was hosted by local group Heaven Sent. Others who participated were Taylor Oliver, A-Team, Jill Taylor, Dean Haynes, Bobby Hartley, Jackie Miller and the southern gospel quartet Southern Harmony of Russell Springs wrapped up the musical program that featured styles from traditional church hymns to modern praise and worship to southern gospel music.

Immediately following the Meade County Gospel Sing, was the Meade County Community Worship Service where several area ministers and a choir assembled of various church groups lead those attending through a multi-faith church service.

During the service First Baptist Church Senior Pastor Sherman Barnes delivered a message about “Stepping Out of the Boat” which encouraged local church goers to get out of their comfort zones.

The service was organized by the Meade County Ministerial Association and also was a chance for the community to donate to the group’s benevolence fund. According to Willard Knipp Pastor of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church, the fund was established last November and is designed for outreach and help to displaced and families in need within the community.

So far the fund has already paid out $10,500 to help needy families. The offering at Sunday evening’s service will go toward the fund.
