A nice warm summer day was capped with various forms of driving events at the Meade County Fair Wednesday night.

The day was centered on youth with various activities centered toward the younger audience of fair goers. But some events are on the lighter side of competing.

The night was capped off with driving events everyone enjoyed, which featured the popular Mud Sling, Garden Tractor Pull and Back seat driver competitions.

In the Back Seat Driver contest, several local faces competed as teams to see how well some folks can give and follow directions. The contest is designed using lawn tractors pulling carts with the driver on the tractor blind folded and the passenger telling the driver how to drive.

The winning teams are:

1st Roadhogs – Gary Chapman & Barbara Proffitt
2nd Slackers – Lauren Cann & Mary Slinger
3rd Snowball’s Chance – Steve & Stacy Robbins
4th Do Gooders – George Straney & Audrey Straney

Meade County Judge Harry Craycroft picked up the “Worst Driver Award” and Bridget Love took the title of “Worst Direction Giver.” The awards were the top honors of the seven teams who competed.

WVIH.com News had a chance to catch up with busy Fair Manager David Pace to see how attendance had “faired” so far this year. Pace said the numbers were actually up over last year. This year as of Wednesday night, 17,608 people have attended the fair which is 686 more people than last year’s 16,922 who had attended at the midway point of the fair.

There is a lot more fun and excitement at the fair which continues through Saturday. For complete coverage of the Meade County Fair, click here.
