Teen Arrested For Murder
05/09/08 MRC/CJ

A Louisville teen has been arrested and charged in a shooting death late Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old Shawnee High School student, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested at the school Wednesday, according to Lieutenant Barry Wilkerson, head of the Louisville Metro Police Department homicide unit.

DelShawn Banks, 34, was found shot to death about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of 31st Street and Young Avenue, according to Jo-Ann Farmer, chief deputy Jefferson County coroner.

Wilkerson said Banks apparently confronted the teenager about a comment that was made to Banks' girlfriend and the verbal argument escalated.

The teen has been charged with murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a minor.

Police have recovered a handgun that they believe was used in the shooting.
