Wind Causes Fatal Accident
05/12/08 WGC

An early morning accident resulted in the death of a Vine Grove woman. According to Meade County Sheriff William “Butch” Kerrick, who describes the incident as a freak accident caused by the gusty morning winds.

Stacy D. Lowman, 31, of Vine Grove, was driving eastbound on Saint Martin’s Road just before 9 am Sunday morning, in a 2000 Dodge minivan, when a falling tree limb, approximately 5 to 6 inches in diameter, blown down by high winds, struck the windshield of the van.

The limb went through the windshield, striking Lowman. The van then left the roadway and came to rest in a yard. She was treated at the scene by Meade County EMS and Flaherty Fire Department personnel and was flown to Hardin Memorial Hospital by Life Net air ambulance, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Lowman’s husband Jason, and her two children, who were passengers in the vehicle, were not injured.
