President Approves Disaster Request
07/25/10 MRC
Governor Steve Beshear was notified Friday that President Barack Obama has approved the governor’s request for a major disaster declaration for Pike County. Severe storms and flooding hit on Saturday, July 17, causing two fatalities and severe damage across the county. Governor Beshear saw the damage firsthand when he visited Pike County on Monday, July 19.
Governor Beshear said he is grateful for the granting of this critical request, and appreciates the swiftness of the White House’s response to help the many Kentucky families hit hard by this storm.
On Wednesday, July 21, Governor Beshear requested a presidential disaster declaration for public assistance and individual assistance, including disaster housing, Individual and Household Program, disaster unemployment assistance and small business administration disaster loans. This request has been granted in full.
Damage assessments continue in other counties that were hard hit by storms during the past week.
