Kentucky State University officials have suspended a Louisville student who is accused of brandishing a handgun in the student center.

Kentucky State University President Mary Sias said 23-year-old Christopher Sims was place on emergency suspension. Sias said the typical penalty in handgun possession case is expulsion from the university.

Sims remains jailed without bond on felony charges of unlawful possession of a firearm on public school grounds and promoting contraband, and misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

Police in Frankfort said Sims entered the center Tuesday and pointed a weapon at students as he walked through but didn't fire any shots.
