Student Spacecraft Set To Launch
03/08/10 MRC/AP

Two spacecraft designed and built by university students in Kentucky and California will launch into space this month at NASA's Wallops Island facility on Virginia's Eastern Shore.

The spacecraft are no bigger than a child's toy block but will gather information that may be applied to future small Earth orbiting space vehicles.

They will fly on a NASA suborbital Terrier-Improved Malemute sounding rocket on March 11th. The two spacecraft will be ejected during the suborbital flight.

Students from a consortium of Kentucky universities and California Polytechnic University built the spacecraft and will capture information during the flight.
