Changes Ahead For Local Media Company
12/29/11 WGC

Changes are on the way at a local media company just in time for the new year. The management of Webtronics Communications LLC., the parent company of WVIH.com, announced changes that will affect some of the website content on Wednesday.

As of Sunday, January 1, 2012, WVIH.com will become a single internet station that will continue to stream twenty four hours a day with local and national content. The move will eliminate the full time gospel music channel. Webster Cundiff, General Manager of WVIH.com, said that the move is a crucial business decision. “It was a hard decision to make, but we are not abandoning our gospel heritage which is our base of our music content.”

The station will keep the channel that has been branded as WVIH.com Country, but will provide a “hybrid” programming approach that will include a mix of tradition and new Country music, along with Southern, Bluegrass and Christian Country music. “This programming mix has not been attempted in our region and will not change our core values as a media company,” Cundiff said.

In the new programming scheme, some new programs will introduced including the Bill Gaither Homecoming Radio program that will debut on January 1. Other programs are in discussions at the present time by management and will be announced and debuted in the months to come.

“Our new approach will allow us to focus our resources to more community events and provide more local personality which will provide a better listening experience,” Cundiff said.

WVIH.com is the only commercial internet radio station in the Central Kentucky region. The station features the only working twenty four hour news room in Meade County and provides coverage of government meetings and community events. The website has been in operation nearly five years and received over a million hits since 2009.

Cundiff said that these changes will enhance all of our strengths as a media company and will allow the company move forward on other ventures that are currently in negotiations. “Some may say that this is a move backwards, but it will position us to serve our local communities better and allow us to provide a stronger platform, which is exciting for our staff,” Cundiff said.
