Eagle Member Makes Gala Soar

A night of glitz and glamour came to Meade County Tuesday night as the Meade Activity Center hosted their third annual gala.
The formal fundraiser was a sell out event for the non-profit organization which featured solo artist and the lead singer of the Eagles, Don Henley. The event also raised money through the dinner along with an auction and silent auction. A notable moment of the night was when the bidding for the first item an autographed guitar signed by the Eagles and was chorded on stage at the gala by Henley. The winning bid was just over $11,000 by the Lusk Group.
The Meade Activity Center began as a dream in 2008 and has came within the past year the board has acquired the Hillcrest Country Club in Brandenburg and has adapted the operations to fit into the organization’s model. According to Board Chairman John Beavin progress continues through by the board hiring executive director Aaron Greenwell. The center also has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Foundation For A Healthy Kentucky to further health and fitness programs in the community.
Among programs developed include Catch program features ongoing curriculum based after school program that includes about 150 people. Expanded day and summer camps are being developed and the first youth golf camp which attracted 75 children under the direction of Craig Heibert. The Meade Activity Center and River Trace Golf Course will become an affiliate of the First Tee of Louisville. First Tee is a national programmed centered on youth development through the game of golf.
Beavin said that the Center has twenty different programs targeted to increase activity and awareness of healthy living that has served over 300 participants in our community.
