Head Injury Training Considered

Coaches would be required to be trained on how to recognize and treat concussions and other head injuries under legislation proposed by Democratic state Representative Joni Jenkins of Shively.
On Tuesday, the bill passed the House Education Committee and now goes before the full House for consideration.
Julian Tackett, who is CEO of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association, said only about a quarter of the state's school districts have athletic trainers.
The bill would also identify actions required before any athlete with a suspected concussion or head injury could return to play.
Committee chairman Representative Carl Rollins II, a Midway Democrat who is also a sponsor, said a similar bill passed last year but this one applies to middle and high schools.
