Aid Depends On Student Performance
01/30/12 WGC/AP

About 5,500 community and technical college students in Kentucky were targeted to lose financial aid this month because of new federal rules aimed at increasing student accountability.

Students are now required to have a 2.0 grade point average, complete two-thirds of courses attempted and not exceed 150% of the credit hours required for a particular degree.

Jerry Davis, director of financial aid for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, said officials do not yet know how many students have been dropped from the rolls.

He said the percentage is probably similar to Jefferson Community and Technical College where approximately 600 of the 15,000 students have withdrawn or been dropped after losing financial aid.
