Early Released Inmates Violate Terms
01/31/12 MRC/AP
Kentucky corrections officials say 75 of the prison inmates granted early release from prison in January have been found in violation, but none had committed new felonies.
Warrants have been issued for 23 early parolees who are missing.
The commonwealth early-released 952 prisoners this month and is preparing to let out another 204 inmates in February.
Corrections officials said another 41 of those released this month face revocation because they violated terms of their early release.
The releases come under the Mandatory Re-Entry Supervision program, which the Legislature passed to reduce the cost and population of the prisons.
Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson said officials are optimistic the program will succeed.
