WVIH.com, Meade County Emergency Management and Meade County Public Library are teaming up for second annual Operation Alert on Friday, April 1st beginning at 2:30 pm at the Meade County Public Library Annex.

Staff will be on hand to program and check NOAA weather radios and related devices to make sure they are in proper working order for the Spring Storm Season. In addition the Meade County Public Library will be showing videos related to the Super Tornado Outbreak of 1974.

Meade County Emergency Management Director Ron Dodson said the program was a success last year and this year in working with library to help citizens be prepared for severe weather across the area. We chose this day because many people relate the date to Brandenburg and the F5 tornado which killed 31 people and caused major devastation to the downtown area.

Gene Webster of WVIH.com added it is a great time to have a community program such as this while people are thinking about the events which has helped make us a more prepared community and nation to severe weather threats and hazards.

During the event, participants will be able to receive information about severe weather safety and preparedness measures to help keep them safe during emergency situations. The event is free and open all ages of the public.
