Ladywaves Fall To Highlanders
01/04/08 BH

The Meade County Ladywaves (6-9) were back in action Thursday night after a short holiday break, traveling across the river to Indiana to take on the Floyd Central Lady Highlanders (10-3).

After falling behind 11-0 to start the game, they struggled for most of the first half against Floyd Central’s stingy man to man defense.

The first half ended with the Ladywaves trailing 22-7. Coach Josh Hurt rallied the troops at half time and the Ladywaves came out of the locker room much more aggressive in the second half. Led by senior Mindy Oliver, the Ladywaves made a run early in the 4th quarter to pull within 10 of the Lady Highlanders, but would come no closer, losing by the final score of 50-28.

The Ladywaves were led in scoring by Oliver (12) and sophomore Bliss Powers (4).  The Lady Highlanders were led in scoring by sophomore guard Brigid Morrissey (13) and senior center Brittney Camp (9).

Scoring recap:

Meade County Ladywaves – Oliver 12, B. Powers 4, Ledford 3, S. Powers 3, Wilson 2, Montgomery 2, Fackler 1, Hurt 1.

Floyd Central Lady Highlanders – Morrissey 13, Camp 9, Smith 8, Hubert 7, Whittaker 6, Allen 4, Bierman 3.

The Ladywaves will take on Edmonson County Saturday afternoon on the road with tip-ff set for 12:30 pm EST.
