According to the Kentucky State Police, 23-month-old Elijah Smith was pronounced dead at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center at approximately 11:41 a.m. Friday.
The police responded to a report of a single vehicle injury collision on Thanksgiving evening just after 5 pm on the William Natcher Parkway near the 21 mile marker. The vehicle involved overturned several times.
KSP says 26 year old Jeffery Smith, of Bowling Green, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet passenger car. He was traveling northbound, on the William Natcher Parkway, when he went off the left shoulder of the roadway and then over-corrected. Smith then lost control of his vehicle, overturned several times and came to final rest on the right shoulder of the roadway.
Smith, along with one of his passengers, 3 year old Madison Smith, were transported from the scene by the Butler County EMS to the Medical Center in Bowling Green for non-life threatening injuries.
Twenty three month old, Elijah Smith, was flown from the scene by AirEvac to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
Jeffery Smith was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision and both children were in child restraint devices.
