The New Albany police and Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office have arrested three more people in connection with a murder earlier this month that happened in a restaurant parking lot.
During an afternoon news conference, prosecutor Keith Henderson announced the arrests of 23 year-old Shaleece A. Grace of New Albany; 22 year-old Vanessa N. Mills of New Albany and 27 year-old Corey S. Sandlin of Lanesville, Indiana in relation to the December 12 murder of Charles Fischback IV.
Fischback was shot just before 3 a.m. in the parking lot of the Waffle House, 325 W. Spring Street. He was pronounced dead at short time later at University of Louisville Hospital.
Grace and Mills are both charged with dealing in marijuana and assisting a criminal. Sandlin faces a charge of dealing in marijuana.
Henderson said the shooting happened as Fischback, Sandlin and the two men previously arrested in the case, 22 year-old Marcus Thomas Threatt, Jr. and 21 year-old Keontez Malone, sat in a car during a drug deal. The shots were fired as Threatt and Malone tried to steal the drugs from Fischback and Sandlin.
The charges Grace and Mills face are because they each drove Threatt and Malone to and from the scene, assisted in the drug deal, and following the shooting harbored the men involved along with the weapon used during the murder.
Threatt, Malone, Grace and Mills had all been at Cardinal Towne, an off-campus student housing complex located near the University of Louisville campus before Grace and Mills drove them to New Albany. Henderson said they returned to Cardinal Towne following the shooting and spent the night there together.
Henderson said Floyd County investigators have been working with the UofL police. The apartment the four stayed in was vacant and none of them had permission to be there, but said the vacant unit had been used as a gathering place.
Henderson also said it does not appear any of the four are enrolled at UofL and how a key to the apartment was obtained is being investigated.
