Members of the Meade County Board of Education began the new calendar year with situating the members into their roles.
As the meeting began, Dana Shelman of Flaherty was welcomed to the board representing the 4th District. Board members appointed Brian Honaker as Board Chairman and Kim Millay as Vice Chairman. Honaker takes the reigns following long time Chairman John Inman, while Millay takes the position previously held by Belinda Cross.
Inman and Cross retired from the board at the end of the calendar year and was honored during the December regular board meeting. John Inman began his service on the board in 1973 and served as board chair from 1988 until 2016. Belinda Cross began her service on the board in 1999 and served as vice board chair from 2003 until 2016.
Board members were presented with the draft 2017-18 draft budget of $8,041,216 to begin the composition of a working budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The board approved a grant application for the Crusade For Children in addition to support to the efforts of the Kentucky School Board Association on the proposed LG&E rate increase.
The board approved the 2016-17 Nutrition and Physical Activity report presented by Terry Lancaster Nutrition Services Director. She reported fifty percent of the elementary schools offer 45 to 60 minutes of physical activity a week while. The districts Food Services program served 291,781 breakfast meals and 578,851 lunch meals during the 2015-16 school year.
The board approved their meeting schedule for the year to remain on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm located at the Board of Education Central Office. The Board’s next meeting will be held of February 14.
