Educational offerings in Meade County have became expansive with the grand opening of the Meade County College and Career Center. By day, high school students will take vocational courses.
By night, it will serve as the extension campus for Elizabethtown Community College. The Meade County School District invested $19 million into the career training center. The goal is to provide local high school students the training they need to be successful in various technical fields.
Meade County School Superintendent John Millay said “Every pathway that is offered in this building that students take as sophomores, juniors, seniors translate to college credit. So kids can leave this facility with 15-30 hours of college credit articulated with Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.”
The center serves a dual purpose. After 3 p.m. the community college will use this building, technologies, and the school district’s spaces and build on these pathways where adults and other generations can earn that associates degree.
Meade County High School alum and Sun Tan City CEO Rick Kueber made a $1 million donation to Meade County Schools, the largest single private donation to a public school district in state history. “Why not give back to a community that has given so much to my family and I over the years. I strongly believe that Dr. Millay and his staff will not only educate but they will inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs here in Meade County,” said Kueber.
The health wing is named after local dentist and longtime board chairman John B. Inman and the entrepreneurial wing is named for the Kueber family. Dr. Inman served as a member of the Meade County Board of Education from 1973 to 2016 for a period of 43 years with nearly 25 years as Chairman.
