An Elizabethtown woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-car collision on U.S. 62.
The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 62 near Kentucky Drive. A Ford Mustang driven by 18 year-old Patrick Kiger of Cecilia, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 62 when a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass, operated by 63 year-old Darlene Hisel of Elizabethtown, crossed into the path of the Mustang, according to the police news release.
The Cutlass was crossing from Kentucky Drive and attempting to cross all four lanes of U.S. 62 to reach the gas station at 2611 Leitchfield Road, EPD investigators said. The front of the Mustang struck the passenger side of the Cutlass where 73 year-old Roge Smith was seated.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.
Hisel was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital with what authorities believe are serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. Kiger was not injured.
The collision remains under investigation by the Elizabethtown Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
