A 20 year-old robbery suspect was arrested after police said he left his ID at the crime scene.
David Whobrey was taken into custody on Tuesday (1/08) for an incident that happened on October 20, 2018.
Police said Whobrey allegedly attacked, beat and stole a phone and money from a victim he offered to help.
According to police, the victim’s car broke down and she walked to a nearby Speedway gas station on Cane Run Road. Police said the victim had asked several people for money so that she could get gas for her car.
According to an arrest report, Whobrey and several others were in the Speedway and Whobrey gave the victim $2.
The victim started walking back to her vehicle and that is when police said Whobrey and three other people got into Whobrey’s car and started following her. Police said Whobrey pulled up to the victim, jumped out of his car, knocked the victim to the ground and started beating her in the face and head.
The victim told police that she felt Whobrey was in some sort of rage.
Police said Whobrey then took the victim’s cash and cell phone and fled. The victim told police she found an ID on the ground, believing it was hers. It turned out to belong Whobrey.
The victim went home and called the Louisville Metro Police Department. The victim suffered severe injuries to the head and face and several of her teeth were knocked out. The victim was able to positively identify Whobrey by comparing his photo to the video surveillance taken from the Speedway.
Whobrey was booked into Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and charged with robbery. He is being held on a $15,000 cash bond.
