Retired Kentucky State Police Maj. Jeremy Thompson was named the new Elizabethtown Police Chief Thursday during a called special meeting of the Elizabethtown City Council.
Thompson, 45, who has spent the last 21 years living in the Elizabethtown area, currently is the Law Enforcement Coordinator for the United States Attorney’s Office representing the Western District of Kentucky.
During his Kentucky State Police career, he held multiple positions and ranks statewide to include patrol, investigations, narcotics, dignitary protection, as well as the planning of multiple major security details. Thompson’s final assignment before retirement was under the direction of Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rick Sanders as the West Troop Major where he was tasked with supervising eight different Kentucky State Police Posts in the western part of the Commonwealth.
Thompson replaces Jamie Land, who is retiring June 1.
