Emergency crews in Meade County were called to several accidents Monday (12/9).
The first accident happened around 3:30 pm on Kentucky 1638 near Gumwell Road, when a pickup truck ran into and under a school bus. The driver of the pickup truck was extricated by members of the Meade County and Muldraugh Fire Departments and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for multiple injuries. According to a statement by Meade County Schools, Bus 216 was near the end of it’s route when the accident occurred. Eleven students and two bus personnel were on board the bus and were not injured. The students were picked up by their parents and a substitute bus will operate the route beginning on Tuesday (12/10). The Meade County Sheriff’s Department was also assisted at the scene by Hardin County EMS and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The roadway reopened around 5:20 pm Monday evening.
A second accident happened around 7 pm Monday (12/9) evening on Highway 79 near the intersection of Greenwell Road. According to initial reports, two vehicles struck nearly head-on causing. A male patient was airlifted from the scene by Air Methods Air Ambulance to University of Louisville for his injuries. Three other people involved refused medical attention. The roadway was closed about thirty five minutes as crews worked to clean up the scene. The Meade County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Meade County EMS and the Meade County FIre Department.
No other details of either accident have been released and the accidents remain under investigation.
