Kentucky State Police responded to an officer involved shooting in Ohio County just before 2 p.m. Thursday (04/08) afternoon.
The preliminary investigation reveals Ohio County Sheriff’s deputies responded to McCreary Court in Hartford to serve multiple arrest warrants on 29 year-old Patrick Logan Bunch of Hartford. Deputies confronted Bunch, who was armed with a hammer and a knife. Deputies ordered Bunch to drop his weapons, however, he failed to comply. Bunch continued towards the deputies where 29 year-old Deputy Katie Pate of Hartford fired her department issued pistol, striking Bunch in the hand.
Bunch was treated at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford and released. He is now lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center, charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer; Manufacturing Methamphetamine, 1st Offense; Trafficking Methamphetamine; Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor, 1st Offense; Assault 3rd, Police Officer; Possession of Methamphetamine; Resisting Arrest; Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (on foot); and Possession of Marijuana.
Deputy Pate was not hurt and has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is normal protocol for most police agencies when officers are involved in police related shootings.
Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Ohio County Sheriff’s Department and Ohio county Ambulance/EMS.
The incident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
