The Brandenburg City Council worked through a short agenda during their regular monthly meeting Monday (5/9) night.
At the beginning of the meeting, council members assigned Councilman Brian Claycomb as Mayor Pro Tem in place of Mayor Ronnie Joyner, who was absent from the meeting. The Yard of Month for May was awarded to Jimmy and Charlotte Medley who lives in the 400 block of Broadway. The council approved the first reading of a rezoning request from Sandra Brown at 830 Old Ekron Road. The request is the change the zoning from R-2 to C-2.
Council members approved the re-appointment of Mitch Crump to a three year term on the Industrial Authority. David Pace, Chairman of the Industrial Authority, said the he was working in finalizing numbers on a funding request to present to city and county leaders. He the funds would be used for operations of the Industrial Authority. Pace said that the Authority is very active as they are continuing to show properties to potential companies along with acquiring land for industrial use. Pace said the request for the funds could be made before the end of the next fiscal year.
Police Chief Brian Hagg reported the hiring of Tim Childs, as a school resource officer. He is expected to begin on June 1st.
