Work is ready to begin on a safety improvement project to restrict aggressive and potentially dangerous traffic movements at KY 361 and Deckard School Road in Hardin County.
Crash history shows through movements along Deckard School Road are involved when nearly all of the incidents occur. In February, officials from Hardin County and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet met to discuss crash history and review ideas to reduce the possibility of incidents at the location. Deckard School Road is a county road while KY 361 is a state road.
After additional traffic movement and speed observations, it was decided from the available options to install a barrier at the median opening along KY 361. The median barrier will prevent crossing and left-turning from Deckard School Road while still allowing left turns from KY 361. Unlike a signal, which allows the potential for blow-through crashes, this feature prohibits traffic movements having the highest potential for high-speed crashes.
Motorists previously crossing KY 361 will be required to utilize the existing intersection at KY 220 and KY 361. This route represents an additional 4-tenths of a mile.
Work is scheduled to be completed by this weekend. Motorists should slow down when approaching the area and be aware of new traffic patterns.
