During a meeting with an overflowing attendance, the Meade County Fiscal Court heard concerns of several citizens and heard the support on maintaining the constitutional rights of the second amendment Tuesday (1/14) night.
During the public session, three citizens spoke in favor of the proposed resolution to make Meade County a 2A Sanctuary County. The resolution is more symbolic than actually creating policy, but supporters of the effort have rallied their voices across the state in an attempt to take a stand against state or even federal government from the confiscation of personal weapons. Meade County magistrates voted unanimously approving the resolution.
A group of other five citizens spoke about their concerns related to environmental and employment concerns the Nucor steel plant.
In other business, Fiscal Court approved the County Clerks 2020 budget and salary schedule for deputy clerks in a total amount of $794,128.05 which includes retirement and insurance costs. Magistrates opened four bids for a new truck for the road department and approved the lowest bid by Ray’s Ford of $39,711.53. They also approved seeking bids on a box swap for a ambulance for the County EMS.
The court heard and approved the second reading of the ordinance setting standards and adjustments for recreational vehicles.
Magistrates moved into a fifteen minute closed session to discuss personnel. Once they returned to the regular session, they voted unanimously to terminate one employee.
