
A man driving a car that was involved in a crash with a Louisville Metro Police Department patrol car has been arrested on multiple charges.
Anthony J. Lewis, 32, is charged with reckless driving, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, DUI with aggravating circumstances and possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department, at 3:19 a.m., LMPD’s First Division was dispatched to a call for service on a report of a motor vehicle collision involving an LMPD cruiser and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of 2nd Street and West Market Street.
A preliminary investigation reveals that an on-duty First Division officer in a marked cruiser, was backing up an officer on a report of a break-in in progress. The cruiser’s lights and sirens were activated.
As the officer was responding, he entered the intersection at 2nd and West Market Street where he collided with a car being driven by Lewis. Both cars were damaged and a utility pole in the area was also hit.
EMS and Louisville Fire Department firefighters were both dispatched to the scene. Officers already on scene rendered aid.
EMS transported the officer and Lewis to University Hospital with injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening. Both drivers were reported to be alert and conscious.
Lewis is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday, December 6.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department, the officer has been released from the hospital after receiving treatment.
