\nFive Kentucky county fairs have been awarded grants totaling more than $455,000 from the state Department of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

State Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles says the grants are for fairground construction and remodeling. The department says the fair boards in Nelson, Harrison and Hancock counties will receive $100,000 each. It says the Clinton County Fair Board will receive $80,043, and the Isom Day Festival Committee will receive $75,000.<\/p>\n

The department says each grant will fund 75 percent of each project’s total cost. It says each project must be started within 90 days of the date the project was awarded and must be completed within nine months.<\/p>\n

Quarles says local fairgrounds are the hubs of Kentucky rural communities, playing host to county fairs, livestock shows and other events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
