It happened when 16 of the 163 cars went off the rails, prompting first responders to call the hazardous material team since three of the cars contained residue of Sodium Hydroxide solution.<\/p>\n
Sgt Everett Roberts of the Central Hardin Fire Department said a minimal amount of the solution leaked on the property of CSX rail bed itself, but due to the dry weather the small spill would not spread beyond the railway.<\/p>\n
Roberts said Sodium Hydroxide is a multipurpose corrosive, but because only a small amount managed to leak, there was no need for environmental concern.<\/p>\n
There were no injuries.<\/p>\n
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation by CSX officials.
