A Leitchfield man faces multiple charges after an overnight high speed chase through three counties.<\/p>\n
Bullitt County dispatch contacted Kentucky State Police Post 4 just after 2 a.m. Friday for assistance in a pursuit that was initiated by the Hillview Police Department after responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint.<\/p>\n
A 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by 28 year-old Timothy E. Hayes, fled from police and entered I-65 at the Brooks exit traveling south on the interstate. The vehicle continued to flee from police on the interstate, at which point Bullitt County Officers notified their dispatchers the occupants of the vehicle were shooting at them. Kentucky State Police Troopers joined the pursuit at approximately the 102 mile marker on I-65. The suspect vehicle continued to flee south at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle exited I-65 at Exit 91 and proceeded West on the Western Kentucky Parkway, where Troopers pursued him for several more miles before entering the city of Leitchfield.<\/p>\n
Leitchfield Police Department Officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device and a Kentucky State Police Trooper was able to further disable the vehicle with a low speed maneuver.<\/p>\n
During an arrest attempt, Hayes reached for KSP Sgt. Kevin Burton\u2019s gunbelt and began tugging on it in an attempt to disarm him. A scuffle ensued until officers could get Hayes in control and under arrest.<\/p>\n
The suspect was then taken to Twin Lakes Regional Hospital where he was later released and taken to the Grayson County Detention Center.<\/p>\n
Hayes is charged with speeding 26mph or more, Reckless Driving, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree, Disarming a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct 1st Degree, Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.<\/p>\n
Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Bullitt County Sheriff Department, Grayson County Sheriff Department and Hardin County Sheriff Department.<\/p>\n
