Mayor Joyner brought the need for a approximate 250 foot section of new side walk across the street from the school to connect the existing to the area of where the cross walk was marked across the street. Council members in December tabled the discussion to allow time to obtain further information and review the site. On Monday (1\/9) the council voted in favor of the project that has a estimated cost of $5,000 according to Mayor Joyner.<\/p>\n<p>City Clerk Amy Haynes reported that Christmas By The River received 9,296 visits and collected $3,936.00 in donations to help fund the utility bill for the annual event. She said the 2016 car count was 2,669 cars less than in 2015 but donations increased to $735.75 over last year&#8217;s event. Haynes said the donation amount averages to 42 cents per car that was donated during this year&#8217;s event. City leaders are looking for a new ideas to add to the attraction to the event which will celebrate it&#8217;s 20th anniversary next year. Anyone with ideas of input for the 2017 Christmas By The River may contact City hall during regular business hours.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Scotty Singleton gave council members a five year comparison of his report categories along with the regular department reports. The five year report shows a dramatic increase in calls received by the department along with a increase in traffic accidents, traffic violations, drug charges, felony arrests, and domestic violence calls. Chief Singleton said his department handled 11,181 calls during the past year period.<\/p>\n<p>Public Works Director T.J. Hughes reported to the council that the city crews have a couple of additional tools to aid snow removal.
