\nThe Meade County Fire Protection District held a open house showcasing new equipment and a training facility to improve firefighting techniques.<\/p>\n

On Saturday (5\/13), Meade County Fire Protection District Chief Terry Compton was joined board members and a representative of the Kentucky State Fire Commission held a ribbon cutting for a the department’s fire training tower located just east of the Meade County Fire Station 1 at 1800 Armory Place.<\/p>\n

The $300,000 all steel structure was obtained through a $230,000 grant from the Kentucky State Fire Commission with the local department adding to the funding. The three story structure can be used to train fire fighters on a variety of basic and advanced tactics from basic entry to repel rescue. Chief Compton said the new tower is expected to be used by all of the departments in the county and the region during the bi-annual fire school training.<\/p>\n

\nHe also believes the training facility will add additional economical impact to surrounding businesses as training attendees come to Brandenburg.<\/p>\n

The department also put into service a 3,500 gallon tanker truck that can pump 1,250 gallons a minute will support fire crews at scenes of structure fires especially where access to water supplies are limited.\"\"<\/p>\n
