\nAt the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Wednesday (10\/14), Your Community Bank presented a $50,000 gift to the Hardin Memorial Health Foundation to fund the construction of a 1,500 square-foot indoor pediatric therapeutic playground. The playground will be part of the 3,700 square-foot expansion of the HMH Therapy and Sports Medicine Center, near Ring and Rineyville roads in Elizabethtown.<\/p>\n

The gift is the first corporate donation to the HMH Foundation, which launched earlier this year and has raised nearly $500,000 for HMH\u2019s Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).<\/p>\n

HMH Foundation Chairman Joe Prather said with the region\u2019s only fully operational Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the demand for pediatric therapeutic services is intensifying and there is already a waiting list due to space limitations. Most Neonatal Intensive Care Unit babies need therapy services at birth and many for years after.<\/p>\n

HMH President and CEO Dennis Johnson shared how the space would allow therapists to treat patients on a therapeutic playground that allows the therapists to simulate real-life functional activities in a rehabilitative setting. The goal is to help these children interact appropriately with their peers, projecting their voices and playing without the fear of being made fun of at their local playground or at school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
