\nThe Hancock County School Board met to make a move on measures about school safety and adding new positions. <\/p>\n

Four safety initiatives were on the agenda; two of those include extra staffing. Both were approved. One of those is a safety resource officer. The other will focus as a social worker in areas such as mental health. That addition would come from the sheriff’s office. Superintendent Kyle Estes says a community forum was held in early March. He said a school resource officer agreement between them and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to get a deputy on school grounds was approved. The officer will focus a majority of their time between the middle and high school but will also monitor the elementary schools.<\/p>\n

In a time, when money is not following, the school system applied for a grant to help cover the cost for the first year but have not heard back. The Board is looking to move forward if they get that funding or not.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
