\nLocal area veterans and their families were honored across the area during Veteran Day ceremonies and activities on Wednesday (11\/11).<\/p>\n

In Made County several gathered in front of the Meade County Courthouse during a service that reflected upon the efforts made by military service members and how their actions have help maintained our freedom.<\/p>\n

In Breckinridge County two ceremonies marked celebrated the area veterans. During the morning ceremony, Meade County resident Ray Cottrell, Sr. was recognized for being a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years. Cottrell is active in promoting and helping veterans in the region.<\/p>\n

Breckinridge County Judge Executive and event organizer Ray Adkins show cased a few month effort of establishing a Veterans Wall of Honor to recognize military men and women who have resided or was born in Breckinridge County. Since May organizers have had nearly 600 pictures of the 1,700 identified veterans in the county donated. As of Veterans Day, 583 photos have been placed on the wall.<\/p>\n

Tenth District Representative Dean Schamore announced a resolution has been drafted in Frankfort awaiting the approval of the Governor Elect Matt Bevin’s signature proclaiming US 60 as the Breckinridge County Veteran Highway. The designation will be between the county lines of Meade and Hancock County.<\/p>\n
