\nAn Elizabethtown doctor was among 60 people charged and indicted in a regional sweep for their alleged participation in the illegal prescribing and distributing of opioids and other dangerous narcotics and for health care fraud schemes.<\/p>\n

Ijaz Mahmood, who lives in Jefferson County and operates a practice along Woodland Drive in Elizabethtown, was among 31 doctors across 11 federal districts to be indicted, according to Department of Justice news release and indictment. Mahmood was indicted on six charges and faces a combined 34 years in prison, $750,000 in fines, or both, if convicted, according to his indictment.<\/p>\n

The charged also include seven pharmacists, eight nurse practitioners and seven other licensed medical professionals for their alleged participation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
