Johnny Jacobs, Vice President and General Manager of Nucor Brandenburg, spoke about the company and the proposed steel mill that will be constructed in the Buttermilk Falls Industrial Park. Jacobs has been employed by Nucor about 17 and half years and has at facilities in North Carolina, Louisiana, and Illinois before he was named General Manager of Nucor Brandenburg. He said the new facility will be a state of the art steel mill that is diversified with technology and will use an electric arch furnace to recycle scrape and used steel turning it into usable steel products.<\/p>\n
Jacobs said that the process used by Nucor is at the cutting edge of technology in the industry and Nucor has led the way in the development of the technology in the steel industry. He said the process has less environmental impacts that previous steel facilities. He the design phase of the steel mill will be conscious of impacts of noise and quality of life impacts to the immediate area which surround the site during construction and operation of the mill. Jacobs said that Nucor is committed to community stewardship and is committed to it’s employees.
\nHe said the local facility will recycle millions of pounds of scrape steel and will be apart of cooperate network of 300 locations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and worldwide. Nucor has the capacity to make 27 million tons of steel.<\/p>\n
Jacobs said that since 1969 until now, Nucor has not laid off any team member during the down economic times in the steel industry and employees 27,000 people across it’s network of facilities. He said that the company is focused on all aspects of safety for it’s employees and the environment.<\/p>\n
Other public forums with Nucor Brandenburg are being planned to provide information about the company, the processes involved with the construction and future of the steel mill and the community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
