\nPresident Donald Trump has approved Governor Andy Beshear’s request for a Federal Major Disaster Declaration, which the White House said will provide federal assistance to state and local efforts to combat and recover from the the novel coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

During his Saturday briefing on the coronavirus in Kentucky, Governor Beshear said that is going to help the state cover costs, up to 75%, for certain costs that the federal government will pay for. Specifically, it enables FEMA to reimburse the state for costs associated with measures taken before, during and after this coronavirus to protect public health and safety.<\/p>\n

That includes costs associated with our state health emergency operations center, disinfecting eligible facilities, providing temporary medical facilities, purchasing equipment and supplies and directing law enforcement to provide necessary assistance.<\/p>\n

Trump’s approval of the the federal declaration comes days after Kentucky’s congressional delegation sent a letter to the president in support of Beshear’s request, according to a news release from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office. <\/p>\n

Beshear declared a State of Emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak in early March. According to McConnell’s office, 119 counties have declared States of Emergency, and 110 cities have declared local States of Emergency.
