City leaders joined elected officials across the state and nation attempting to keep elected officials safe and healthy as they find their way through the current Covid-19 pandemic. Council members joined by teleconference with Mayor Ronnie Joyner to conduct business. In the normal council chamber was only Mayor Joyner, City Clerk Amy Haynes, City Public Works Director T.J. Hughes, Police Chief Brian Hagg and Gene Webster with WVIH.com. The meeting was streamed live via WVIH.com and Facebook pages for the City and Brandenburg Police Department.<\/p>\n
Mayor Joyner said that all of the city employees are doing well and are adapting to the new normal of the situation. He said that the city maintenance crews and office staff have been divided into two groups to allow measures in case someone becomes sick. Police Chief Brian Hagg said that his department is back up and fully staffed with officers and is working to reduce contacts as they respond to calls for service. He said during the month of March, the department had 236 calls for service.<\/p>\n
The council approved a motion to pay an invoice to Smith Engineering in the amount of $25,312 for services related to an upcoming water project along Lawrence Street. The Council approved executive orders into the meeting minutes for the state emergency and Leave Family First of the Corona Virus Response Act.<\/p>\n
Public Works Director T.J. Hughes reported that the campground is ready to be opened once current restrictions are lifted. He also reported that all of the play ground equipment has been roped off and closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 response. Hughes said that more radio water meters have been received and will be installed once the maintenance crews return to normal. The next areas expected to receive the new meters include Four Oaks Subdivision, Old Ekron Road, Ghent Road, and Ruthie Court.<\/p>\n
The annual large item pickup will be this Saturday (4\/18) in the city of Brandenburg.<\/p>\n
