\nThe Harrison County Sheriff\u2019s Department identified human remains found off State Road 135 as George Ronald Schmidt, Jr. of Branchville, Indiana. A group of highway workers discovered the remains Thursday morning underneath a bridge just north of downtown Maukport, where they were doing routine maintenance.<\/p>\n

Schmidt was reported missing in March 2014. He was last seen on February 27, 2014. The day he disappeared, he stopped at his father\u2019s house in Corydon to tell him how excited he was to start a new job. Indiana State Police said that evening Schmidt went to the River Bottom Inn in Maukport where he had a few drinks and played pool. He was never seen again.<\/p>\n

Investigators said Schmidt left his coat and an unfinished drink at the bar. Detectives also found his silver Honda CRV in the parking lot.<\/p>\n

A group of anthropologists from the University of Indianapolis were called in to investigate the remains. The group worked at the site for hours Friday carefully searching for answers.<\/p>\n

Although detectives were able to identify Schmidt early Friday evening, investigators said it would take a while to determine how he died.
