During a recent visit to Brandenburg, the group had setup to preach at people in the right of way owned by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet at the entrance to the River Ridge Plaza. Sighting public safety due to the high volume of traffic, Brandenburg Police ask for a permit from the state that allowed them to be right of way. Since they did not have proper permission, they were asked to move to a safer location where they could obtain permission. City leaders said the group was welcome to visit Brandenburg but need to do their outreach from a safe location, where they had permission to setup.

In other business, the council discussed and conducted the second reading of the proposed $7.8 million 2021-22 Fiscal year budget. Before the reading, the council discussed the possibility of adding hazardous retirement for the city police officers to enhance retention and recruiting efforts for the department. If City leaders approved the positions for hazardous retirement, those positions would locked the city to continue the extra benefit at the rate set forth by the state. Some voiced concerns if the city could sustain the additional cost the city budget. After several minutes of discussion, the council moved forward as a consensus to keep the addition $45,000 in the proposed budget and have further discussions on the issue in the future. The council approved the second readings of a current year budget amendment and proposed budget.

Public Works Director T.J. Hughes reported that the new boat ramp has been installed and the playground was finished last week. The Riverfront Park will have a second riverside swing installed soon once the concrete work is complete.

Mayor Ronnie Joyner provided the council a update and timeline for the Main Street sidewalk project in downtown. He said advertisement of bids is public and the state transportation cabinet has a time frame for construction meetings and expect bids to be opened later this month with construction to start around the first of August and a tentative completion date of February 1, 2022.

Council members also reviewed and approved a surplus property list which will be sold during an coming auction in July. They also approved a $30,000 earmark of funds to assist Industrial Authority with constructing a water line from the city limits to an area along Kentucky 933.

A hot topic of the evening, was an issue with Waste Management regarding the lack of trash collection Friday
(6/11) across the city. City Clerk Amy Haynes said City Hall received over a 100 phone calls regarding the issue. Waste Management did not notify city leaders of a malfunction of equipment and personnel shortages that allegedly contributed to the lack of pickup on Friday. Haynes said as of Monday (6/14) morning no clear answer on a resolution issue had been made by Waste Management. She said that information that was provided to city hall on Friday was not valid and no trash was collected over the weekend as had been indicated by the company.

You can watch the entire regular meeting of the Brandenburg City Council in our “On Demand” section

Members of the Brandenburg City Council discussed concerns during their regular monthly meeting Monday (6/14) night.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[59

0":"post-34384","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"entry
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
