\nMembers of the Brandenburg City Council voted to rescind a previously approved resolution in support of accepted Main Street in to the city maintenance system during their regular monthly meeting Monday (9\/13) night.<\/p>\n

The motion was prompted from comments in a discussion made by Council Member Bryan Claycomb, who questioned the haste in approving a resolution to accept the maintenance of Main Street from the State Transportation Cabinet that was approved during the August meeting. Claycomb questioned if enough facts were provided to the council related to costs to maintain the less than 2,000 of street for paying and winter maintenance. Mayor Ronnie Joyner stated during the August meeting that state officials had approached the city to take over the ownership of the street once the proposed sidewalk project and resurfacing was completed. After a short discussion, Claycomb made the motion to rescind the resolution, to allow more research into maintenance costs and motive of the state to offer the request. The motion was approved on a 4 to 2 vote.<\/p>\n
Mayor Ronnie Joyner said that the side walk project was still be evaluated and continues to be stalled until additional funding can be secured to proceed further. <\/p>\n
In other business, resident Mark Spry asked the council to name the gazebo in the Riverfront Park in honor Jerry Cannady, who constructed the structure for a community festival in the 1980s. David Pace updated the council on plans for a local announcement related to the Eddie Kane Steel, which was announced by the state a few weeks ago. Pace asked the council to start thinking about and considering other areas in the city for industrial zoning. Currently a couple of sites remain for industrial use. He urged city leaders to review the situation quickly.<\/p>\n
The council approved a proposal from SK Lee CPAs for the future audits for the city. The firm was recommended by Dan Drane, who had recently completed the recent audit of city finances. The council heard and approved the first reading of ordinance setting the tax rates for the city. The proposed 2021 real property tax would be set at 0.226 cents per $100 of value; 0.544 cents per $100 of value on personal property. The council will have a second reading of the tax rate by the end of the week. City leaders heard and approved the second reading of the planning and zoning ordinance related to recreation vehicles.<\/p>\n
City Public Works Director TJ Hughes brought the council’s attention to issues related to the city’s Case backhoe and reference a letter sent to council members related to the purchase of a mini-excavator. Hughes said the the excavator could be used in a smaller space than the current equipment which causes more damage to yards when they need to repair water or sewer lines. The excavator meets state bid requirements and was offered to the city by Boyd -Cat and offered the city $31,000 for the old backhoe leaving a difference of $35,075 between the the two prices of equipment. After a short discussion, the council voted to approved the request.<\/p>\n
Mayor Ronnie Joyner and several council members thanked all of the volunteers and organizers of the recent LST 325 visit which brought at least 15,000 people into the city during the Labor Day weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Poole was awarded the September Yard of Month Award during the meeting.<\/p>\n
