Magistrates approved accepting a parcel of land from Nucor to relocate the county burn pile and possibly relocate the county road department and animal control offices at a later date. Court members approved a proposal of $5,000 offered by a contractor to make repairs along Clarkson Road to fix damages from a recent water line installation. <\/p>\n
After some discussion, Fiscal Court voted to adjust the pay scale to allow some department supervisors to be paid as a part-time wage after they have reached their normal 40 hours. This would apply to departments which provide around the clock services and supervisors must fill in vacancies or assist with staffing issues. Magistrates also agreed to a pilot program for some department supervisors to use county vehicles in specific situations to assist employees with gas prices.<\/p>\n
The court discussed a funding request made by the Meade County Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Authority of $250,000 to be used to assist their efforts to purchase property for a new joint office space. Representatives from each board were in attendance and asked magistrates during the last regular meeting of Fiscal Court expressing the need of working space and possibility of matching a USDA grant for a new workforce development center as a separate project. The money would be used to purchase approximately 7 acres of land in the city limits which already has a house on it that would become home the new home of the Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Authority. The land allows the groups to expand in the future as needed. After a lengthy discussion, magistrates voted in favor of $250,000 to the Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Authority boards with a stipulation that the county would be refunded the difference of funds if the USDA grant is approved.<\/p>\n
