Leitchfield police officers got lucky while searching a house for suspected drug activity.<\/p>\n
Upon executing a search warrant, they noticed around 150 pieces of mail with addresses of some people which had reported check fraud with the Leitchfield Police.<\/p>\n
It is believed these people were stealing mail out of mailboxes at random in Bullitt, Hardin, Breckinridge and Grayson.<\/p>\n
Around 40 checks have been cashed. Now, police and postal inspectors are investigating. They are going through video of the suspects cashing in at different businesses.<\/p>\n
Officials say there may be up to seven suspects. They know of three so far, but no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n
Authorities warn the public against putting up the red flags on their mailboxes. They also warn not to leave mail overnight.<\/p>\n
Police believe is happening in the wee hours of the morning and drug addictions are fueling the thefts. The suspects will face state and federal charges.<\/p>\n
Anyone missing mail should call the police.
