\nA Lexington family is demanding answers after a boy\u2019s death in foster care.<\/p>\n
Seven-year-old Ja\u2019Ceon Terry died earlier this year in the care of a Louisville foster facility, and the coroner ruled his death a homicide by asphyxiation. The family has hired an attorney.<\/p>\n
For three years, Ja\u2019Ceon and his two younger brothers have been in foster care as their mother battled addiction. Their grandfather desperately wanted to take custody but couldn\u2019t make it work and says he didn\u2019t have the means to do so.<\/p>\n
In July, the family got a call from Brooklawn, a foster care facility in Louisville, that Ja\u2019Ceon had been involved in an \u201cincident.\u201d He later died at Norton Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n
Last week, the coroner announced Ja\u2019Ceon\u2019s death is considered a homicide, citing \u201cpositional asphyxiation.\u201d<\/p>\n
His grandfather, George Terry, said they learned about the cause of death ruling through an online media outlet.<\/p>\n
Ja\u2019Ceon\u2019s mother, Dominique, said she wants to see justice served.<\/p>\n
The Cabinet for Health and Family Services has stopped placing children at the center for now.<\/p>\n
The boy\u2019s foster family has filed a lawsuit seeking a jury trial, alleging wrongful death, negligence and negligent hiring, training, supervision and retention.<\/p>\n
Louisville Metro Police and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services both are continuing to investigate the situation.
