On Saturday (3\/5), the Friends of the Holt Home hosted the Indiana National Guard Reserves Judge Advocate Generals for an onsite training exercise at the Judge Joseph Holt Home. Roger Wilson, the legal administrator of the 38th Division, reached out to the local group to use the site for the training. After being delayed a few hours due to weather, three Blackhawk helicopters landed at the Holt Home, that brought twenty-six JAGS and a Indiana Supreme Court Justice to Breckinridge County.<\/p>\n
The group was welcomed to the site by Susan Dyer, Chairperson of the Friends of the Holt Home. Dyer said the group had a luncheon, toured the site and then finished their training. Dyer said this is could be the beginning more such visits which will include local, state and national uses including to be a meeting a place for the Army JAGS from across the country.<\/p>\n
Among other officials at the Holt Home Saturday included Breckinridge County Judge Executive Maurice Lucas, who said Wilson was impressed with the site. “He was very impressed with the condition of the home and knew there was not electric or water, but He was impressed that the home was Judge Holt’s.” Representative Dean Schamore said that the site could help bring more tourism to the county. He said that he had spoken to state tourism and parks officials about the historic site and the progress being made as the excitement continues to build about the project.<\/p>\n
The JAGS’s visit is fitting as the renovation of the Joseph Holt home has secured a grant from the National Trust of Historic Preservation in 2015 for a site-use plan for the use of the Holt Home. The non-profit group is the working diligently to make the site a national meeting place for Army JAGS from across the nation.<\/p>\n
