Kentucky State Police have charged 39 year-old Gregory Embry with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer; Assault 2nd Degree and Burglary 1st Degree.<\/p>\n
On September 23, Daviess County Deputy Sheriff Alex Cooms responded to a report of a man with a hammer breaking into homes in the 9000 block of US 60 West in Owensboro. After observing a frantic woman and a juvenile, who had been assaulted with a hammer, running from a house, Deputy Cooms went into the house and confronted Embry who was armed with a hammer. Embry attempted to attack Cooms with the hammer and Cooms discharged his service weapon striking Embry. Deputy Cooms was not injured.<\/p>\n
Embry was taken to Owensboro Health for treatment.<\/p>\n
Embry was lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro on Thursday, October 6.<\/p>\n
