The Jefferson County Coroner\u2019s Office confirmed Christen Lovett died on November 2 due to blunt force injuries.<\/p>\n
Christen was in the care of 29 year-old Derrick A. Taylor Jr. at the time of his death. Taylor has since been charged with Christen\u2019s murder. He was already being held at Louisville Metro Corrections when he was charged with the murder.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, police and firefighters were called to a home in the 1600 block of South Third Street on a child who was having difficulty breathing.<\/p>\n
Christen was rushed by EMS to Norton Children\u2019s Hospital where he later died.<\/p>\n
Early examination revealed the child had multiple injuries that were signs of abuse, including two skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, a fractured finger and blood in his diaper.<\/p>\n
Medical officials later discovered contusions on the child\u2019s head, bruising on his back and a laceration to his liver.<\/p>\n
Taylor told detectives he was home alone with the child when the boy showed signs of distress. Taylor also said to police the boy was behaving normally earlier before he started having difficulty breathing.<\/p>\n
After being charged with murder, Taylor was being returned to LMDC when he tried to escape. A report on that incident says Taylor ran out of the prisoner intake entrance when it opened to allow a police car to enter. Taylor, who was still handcuffed behind his back, was recaptured by police a short time later. As a result, he is now facing additional charges of escape and fleeing or evading police.
