According to Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Department a shooting happen around 2 pm CDT Thursday (03\/24) afternoon in Garfield at an abandoned gas station. in the 6000 block of US Highway 60.<\/p>\n
When Deputies arrived at the scene they found one man on the ground and another man in a car with gun shot wounds. The man on the ground was identified as 34 year-old Johnny Ray Thompson of Irvington. Breckinridge County Deputy Coroner Raleigh Shelton pronounced Thompson dead at the scene. Thompson died of multiple gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n
The second man was taken to Breckinridge Memorial Hospital for his injuries and later transferred to University of Louisville Hospital where he later died from his wounds. Full details surrounding the incident have not been made known, but authorities believe that the shooting apparently stemmed from a argument over a girlfriend. The shooting remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
As a result of the incident, Breckinridge County Schools were placed on lockdown for a brief time until authorities were able to determine the circumstances of the situation. Autopsies are scheduled for both on Friday in Louisville.<\/p>\n
