\nMeade County lost a gentle but major supporter Wednesday (5\/24) as Ron Dodson passed away at a Louisville hospital at the age of 63.<\/p>\n
Ron served as the County Emergency Management Director for 33 years before his retirement last fall. He also served on the Payneville Fire Department for many years and was an instrumental part of many training programs throughout emergency services in the region. In all he served in emergency services for nearly 40 years.<\/p>\n
Ron was not only involved in emergency services, but was an amateur radio operator where he got into KY Army MARS, and handled written messages from service members in Korea and Japan. If Fort Knox didn’t have personnel to run the post net, Ron ran it from home. He later became the Section Emergency Coordinator for KY Amateur Radio Emergency Service. In 2007, Ron worked as a part time disc jockey at WMMG radio. His passion for his career and family kept him going until recent health issues.<\/p>\n
Ron achieved many accomplishments and was instrumental in securing grant funds for various county projects including the Muldraugh Community Safe Room to providing closure for some during the 40th Anniversary Ceremony of the April 3, 1974 Tornado Outbreak. Ron loved Meade County and strived to serve his friends and community to the best of his ability while using a common sense approach to manage situations. In his personal life, he had a passion for history which became popular on his social media posts. He would provide local or national historic items to help educate and remind us of events that shaped our modern society.<\/p>\n
As a trained storm spotter, Ron’s weather updates also became a model of how relay critical information through social media. He spent many hours before, during and after storm events monitoring situations until the danger had passed. If damage occurred, then he would spend even more countless hours working through details until the matter was resolved.<\/p>\n
If anyone pointed out any of these items, his humble response would be “I’m just doing my job.” He excelled at a job that many are critical of, but don’t understand. He performed his duties to his best of his ability and set a high standard that provided a true example of a public servant. For those of us, who were honored to be friends with Ron, we were blessed beyond our knowledge and understanding. We will be forever grateful and influenced by\u00a0our short time with him.<\/p>\n
Meade County Judge Executive Troy Kok has ordered all flags to be flown at half staff in honor Ron Dodson on Monday, May 29. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Monday (5\/29) at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 3 until 8 pm Sunday (5\/28) and after 10 am Monday at the funeral home.
